The Works: Looking for the NBA's Best Scorer

Today in The Works: We mock-draft the best scorers in the NBA. Enjoy!

Nothing But Net

Bethlehem Shoals: Scoring, we have been told, is often fool's gold. Points are only as good as the percentages behind them. Three rebounds are better than two points. Still, it's hard to win games without points, and every team needs one big-time scorer. The question I want to discuss is: who is the fairest scorer of them all?

Eric Freeman
: It's a good question and one we should certainly discuss at great length.

Carlos Delgado Eyes Major League Return

Carlos DelgadoCarlos Delgado is plotting his return to the major leagues. The slugger, who played 17 years in the big leagues but sat out last season, is recovering from surgery on his left hip and says he will be ready to look for a job in spring training.

"If I am healthy, I will find a way," Delgado told reporters while visiting the Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy over the weekend. "I know how to play. I don't want to retire. The reason why I put myself through three surgeries in 18 months is because I want to play. Otherwise, I would have just hung it up."

Delgado was briefly a member of the Red Sox organization last season before he had that third procedure on his left hip, so he will need to convince another club that he's healthy and ready to contribute.

"The rehab is coming along, and I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing," Delgado said. "I would say within the next couple of weeks I will have a better idea of when I'm going to be ready because we are going to start sprinting a little bit and I'm going to take batting practice a little bit more often. Right now, it's every other day or every two days just because you just go gradually into it.

Spike Lee Says Kevin Garnett Needs to 'Calm the F**k Down'

Because of his run of on-court antics and temper tantrums, Kevin Garnett is losing supporters and gaining haters by the day. Count filmmaker and Knicks diehard Spike Lee as the newest name on a growing list of individuals unhappy with Garnett's acts on the court.

In a recent interview with ESPNNewYork.com, Lee was asked what his most memorable conversation was with a player during a game. He cited a "nasty" discussion with Reggie Miller, but also spoke of a expletive-filled clash with Garnett where the power forward "lost it."

"(Garnett) was cursing me out for no reason," Lee said of the incident earlier this season. "Maybe because (Amare) Stoudemire gave him 39 points, but take that vulgarity to Stoudemire. I'm not holding you and I did not even say s**t to Garnett the whole game. That really surprised me. He lost it. He was cursing at me the whole game. He needs to calm the f**k down."

Lee went on to call Garnett's language "disrespectful" and said he "would never do nothing like that to him."

J.R. Smith Wants to Move on From Latest Incident, Stay in Denver

J.R. SmithDENVER -- What is it with guys named J.R.? J.R. Rider always had negatives surface during his playing days, although it continued after he started calling himself Isaiah.

J.R. Smith also has had plenty of negatives during his seven-year career. He did flirt last season with being known by his given name of Earl Smith Jr., perhaps thinking that might soften some headlines, but he soon abandoned that idea.

"For me, it was just more or less people were looking at it as, 'Well, that's just J.R. being J.R.,''' the Denver guard said Monday about his flagrant foul 2 last Friday against Utah that got him a $25,000 fine Saturday. "That's my first ever flagrant 2.''

Smith said he likely won't appeal the fine and that he has "no beef'' with Jazz guard Deron Williams, who shoved Smith and got a technical and later said Smith made a "dirty play.'' He's just looking to move on, and that definitely doesn't have anything to do with moving on from the Nuggets.

Smith's name still has come up in rumors as the Feb. 24 trade deadline approaches. That is despite Nuggets vice president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri having told FanHouse before the season he is confident Smith will last the season with the team and despite Ujiri and Smith both telling FanHouse in December the desire is for Smith to re-sign with the Nuggets this summer.

Smith, making a base salary this season of $6.03 million, is due to become a free agent July 1, although any progress then could be delayed by what happens due to the collective bargaining agreement expiring June 30. He told FanHouse on Monday nothing has changed from his end in wanting to remain long-term in Denver.

Justin Bieber might be a teen singer, but he also has some rapping game. Last week, his lyrical skills were featured on the track "Won't Stop" off Sean Kingston's new mixtape, King of Kingz. On it, Bieber blasts those who might not believe in his staying power.

When he stopped by Friday to chat with MTV News, the pop star revealed that he was the one who penned those inspirational words: "It was a while ago. I did it in the studio. I wrote it though, just letting you guys know," he shared. "Probably all you haters saying, 'He didn't write that.' I wrote it."

He then spit the bars back to reporter Sway Calloway, without missing a beat, live in the MTV newsroom. "Yeah they talk, yeah they talk/ They don't walk the walk I walk/ I won't stop 'til I drop, until then I reach the top/ I'mma walk to where I need to be, walk the path of destiny/ Definitely been neglected but God is always testing me" he rapped. "Rest in peace to all the men that died who were protecting me/ People in this world just want to let it be/ John Lennon made it different/ Don't just let it be, set it free."

This isn't the first time Bieber has displayed his rap skills. He frequently raps Ludacris' verses when performing "Baby" live, and he released a rap track last year under the moniker Shawty Mane. "I just do it for fun. I just mess around. It's something I like to do," he explained.

In November, he told us, "You know, Justin Bieber is not a rapper, and it would just be lame if I came out rapping.

"It's lame anyway because I'm a pop singer, but I thought it was funny. I just did it as a joke. It wasn't like anything serious."

Early in the second quarter of Sunday's Eastern Conference Finals rematch between the Celtics and the Magic, Boston's Marquis Daniels was posting up Gilbert Arenas with his back to the basket, then faced up and began to make his move. In doing so, his head made contact with Arenas's chest, and Daniels immediately collapsed to the floor, where he remained motionless for a few minutes before being taken off on a stretcher.

Video of the injury can be seen in the clip below.
