While Willow Smith is the one who made music headlines with "Whip My Hair" last year, it's her brother, "Karate Kid" actor Jaden Smith, who will take the stage at the upcoming 53rd Grammy Awards in a special performance alongside Usher and Justin Bieber, with whom he collaborated on the song "Never Say Never" last summer.
The trio joins a list of new performers added to the show on Thursday (January 20) that will also include another power trifecta made up of B.o.B, Bruno Mars and Janelle Monáe, according to a press release from the Recording Academy announcing the additions to the February 13 telecast from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Also taking the stage next month will be nominees Muse and Lady Antebellum. They will join a roster of previously announced performers that includes Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Arcade Fire, Cee Lo Green and Miranda Lambert. It will be the first time on the Grammy performance stage for Bieber, B.o.B, Lambert, Mars, Monáe, Muse and Smith. Eminem, Green, Gaga, Perry, Usher and Lady Antebellum will be making return visits for the occasion.
While 11-time Grammy winner Eminem leads the pack in nominations this year (with 10 nods), Mars has seven nominations, and Gaga and Lady Antebellum are not far behind with six nods each. B.o.B has notched five, Perry and Green are each up for four, and Arcade Fire and Lambert are vying for three awards. Bieber, Muse, Usher and Monáe are each nominated for two Grammys.
No details of the collaborative performances were released, but the Grammy announcement promised a rare, never-before-seen event for the Mars, B.o.B and Monáe segment.
With the addition of Antebellum, all five Album of the Year nominees (Eminem, Arcade Fire, Gaga, Perry) are now scheduled to perform on the show. Additional performers, presenters and special segments will be announced soon.

Veteran screenwriter could take over franchise from departed Jon Favreau.

Shane Black

One week after news first broke that Shane Black was a top candidate to helm "Iron Man 3" in the wake of Jon Favreau's departure from the franchise, another report suggests the director is now in final negotiations to win the job.
Deadline reports that Black is essentially set to direct Robert Downey Jr. in the third "Iron Man" flick but that it's unclear whether he'll also pen the script. "That's not figured out," an unnamed source told the website.
A rep handling the film declined to comment, while Black's rep hadn't returned MTV News' requests for comment by press time.
Black only has one directorial credit on his résumé, but it's a potent one: He helmed 2005's "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," in which Downey starred and during which the two were said to strike up a close creative partnership.
Previously, Black was said to be in contention with other filmmakers also being eyed for the gig. What's more, it was reported that he'd also get a shot to pen a draft of the script. But according to Deadline, the screenwriting portion of Black's deal has not yet been hammered out.
Black, after all, is primarily known for his talents as a screenwriter. In the mid-'80s, he penned the script for "Lethal Weapon" and went on to write "The Last Boy Scout" and "The Long Kiss Goodnight," among other scripts. He's recently been hired to write "Death Note," an adaptation of a manga series, and a film based on the Doc Savage pulp novels.

Monday wasn't exactly a banner day for the Colorado Avalanche. Peter Forsberg ended his comeback attempt after just two games by announcing his retirement, while the team that remained on the ice was absolutely annihilated by the Calgary Flames by a 9-1 margin. The loss was Colorado's ninth in a row as its playoff hopes continue to slip away. The only team below the Avalanche in the standings is the Edmonton Oilers, while the they're now 10 points back of a playoff spot. Calgary stormed out to a 5-0 first period lead thanks in large part to the play of Olli Jokinen, who recorded a goal and three assists in the opening 20 minutes. But as the period came to a close, Colorado's Philippe Dupuis caught him with a knee-on-knee hit that resulted in a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct. Jokinen did return for the second period, but ultimately left the game for good with what the Flames called a lower body injury. Here's a look at the play, which happened right before the horn sounded...

'We just established that I'm a Belieber,' Depp told the teen sensation at a recent junket promoting the actor's upcoming animated film.
By Kara Warner
A group of lucky reporters witnessed what may be the surprise celebrity encounter of the year over the weekend, when Justin Bieber waltzed into a press conference for the forthcoming animated film "Rango" with Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin and director Gore Verbinski. Coincidentally enough, Depp had just answered a question as to whether or not he was a "Belieber," since he'd taken his kids to a concert by the teen pop phenom back in December.
"Hey, pal!" a surprised Depp exclaimed as Bieber waved "hello" by flashing a peace sign from the back of the room. The young singer then approached the cast to shake hands — and received a round of applause from the audience while doing so.
"We just established that I'm a Belieber," Depp said.
"I'm a big fan of you, so I had to come support you," Bieber replied. "I just wanted to say 'hi.' I heard you were in the building."
Talk about worlds colliding! When MTV News caught up with Depp on Sunday, we asked him about the meeting, and whether his kids were green with envy at the fact that dear old dad met the "Never Say Never" star before they did.
"My daughter was most definitely jealous," Depp said of 11-year-old Lily-Rose's reaction upon hearing the news. "Justin, bless him, he's a very sweet guy. He had a pair of his purple glasses in his pocket [and] he said, 'Oh yeah, give these to Lily-Rose.' She was very chuffed [British slang for being really pleased] about that. She was very touched.
"He's a good guy," Depp continued. "A sweet guy."
Aw, that Justin Bieber — making Beliebers out of everyone, he is.

Where has "American Idol" been hiding Jacob Lusk?
The 23-year-old spa concierge from Compton, California, who had barely been seen prior to Thursday's (February 17) episode, stepped out in a big way during the final Hollywood Week show, flooring the judges and his fellow contestants with one of the most stunning, stirring auditions ever seen on the "Idol" stage.
Lusk, dressed in a pair of blue jeans and an untucked tuxedo shirt, hit the stage and gave a wildly original take on Billie Holiday's "God Bless the Child" that had him flexing his range from deep lows to high highs, and scatting between the lyrics. His expressive face contoured around each of the words, as he clenched his eyes tightly and flexed his eyebrows to give emphasis to each of his lines.
Jennifer Lopez looked puzzled by his unorthodox delivery at first, but it wasn't long before all three judges were screaming in amazement, with Steven Tyler leaning back in his seat and getting Randy Jackson's attention with a huge, "Woooooo-hoooooo!" Soon Lopez was whooping too, and all three judges — and a handful of Lusk's fellow contestants — were on their feet in the auditorium. As Lusk wrapped up, Tyler turned to Lusk's family in the audience and yelled, "Be proud!"
Lusk jumped up and down onstage after seeing his peers' and the judges' reactions and blew a kiss to the crowd before quickly darting out of the room. Outside, he was greeted by Ryan Seacrest and members of his family, and Lusk appeared physically and emotionally spent. He fell into his family members' arms and wailed with tears, before catching himself and explaining, "I'm not a cryer, I don't cry." Said Seacrest, "Coulda fooled me."
After the auditions, contestants were quarantined in four separate rooms as they awaited their fate from the judges. But it had to be a comfort for everyone in Lusk's room to know they were grouped with the man who just brought down the house onstage like few had before him, and sure enough, when it came time to deliver the news, they all graduated through to the next round.

She was overlooked by the Grammys, but Ke$ha dominated radio and the charts in 2010 with her Auto-Tuned electro-pop and a distinctive "garbage chic" style that had everybody talking.
In the latest issue of Billboard, the party-girl pop star opens up about her whirlwind rise to the top, saying she has no regrets about her breakthrough year.
"Are you kidding me? I pretty much feel like I've been reborn into this completely different existence," the singer told the magazine when asked how life had changed for her. "My entire life has become making music and playing shows, and I love it. I've accepted the fact that my fans are now my family, and I won't be having boyfriends. I'll just be having a really amazing relationship with the radio."
The pop star said that although she "wasn't clueless" about what fame might bring, it far exceeded her expectations. "It's just not at all what I expected it to be like," she said. "It's really intense, more intense than I ever thought it would be."
Recalling paparazzi chasing her as she made her arrival at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, Ke$ha said, "I was having an anxiety attack, like, 'I just wrote some pop songs, man!' "
Ke$ha, who graces the mag's cover wearing a crown as she pops a bottle of champagne, also talked about her big debut single, saying, "Sometimes I need to remind myself that 'Tik Tok' only went to #1 in January, because it kind of feels like it was 17 years ago."
The mag went on to ask if "Tik Tok" was the best way to introduced herself to the public. "I don't know. We didn't really know which song to come out with first," Ke$ha said. "It was kind of a debate, because I didn't initially come out as a rapper; I've always been a singer. So having my first single classified as kind of a rap song felt bizarre to me. But now it's become something of a trademark, and it's becoming more legitimate. I've talked to some of my favorite rap artists over the past year — artists who are idols — and they've given me mad props."
What was your favorite Ke$ha moment of 2010? Tell us in the comments!
