While Willow Smith is the one who made music headlines with "Whip My Hair" last year, it's her brother, "Karate Kid" actor Jaden Smith, who will take the stage at the upcoming 53rd Grammy Awards in a special performance alongside Usher and Justin Bieber, with whom he collaborated on the song "Never Say Never" last summer.

The trio joins a list of new performers added to the show on Thursday (January 20) that will also include another power trifecta made up of B.o.B, Bruno Mars and Janelle Monáe, according to a press release from the Recording Academy announcing the additions to the February 13 telecast from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Also taking the stage next month will be nominees Muse and Lady Antebellum. They will join a roster of previously announced performers that includes Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Arcade Fire, Cee Lo Green and Miranda Lambert. It will be the first time on the Grammy performance stage for Bieber, B.o.B, Lambert, Mars, Monáe, Muse and Smith. Eminem, Green, Gaga, Perry, Usher and Lady Antebellum will be making return visits for the occasion.

While 11-time Grammy winner Eminem leads the pack in nominations this year (with 10 nods), Mars has seven nominations, and Gaga and Lady Antebellum are not far behind with six nods each. B.o.B has notched five, Perry and Green are each up for four, and Arcade Fire and Lambert are vying for three awards. Bieber, Muse, Usher and Monáe are each nominated for two Grammys.

No details of the collaborative performances were released, but the Grammy announcement promised a rare, never-before-seen event for the Mars, B.o.B and Monáe segment.

With the addition of Antebellum, all five Album of the Year nominees (Eminem, Arcade Fire, Gaga, Perry) are now scheduled to perform on the show. Additional performers, presenters and special segments will be announced soon.

Lady Gaga is certainly known for her eye-popping, always-evolving style, and she has shown her passion for fashion at numerous high-profile events. This hasn't gone unnoticed by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, as the trade organization announced on Wednesday night that the pop star will be among its 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards winners, The Associated Press reports.

Gaga will be presented with the Fashion Icon Award at this year's ceremony, which will take place on June 6 in New York City. CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg and executive director Steven Kolb made the announcement at the DVF Studio in the Big Apple, where all the nominations were made public for the event.

Also set to be recognized at the CFDA Awards is designer Marc Jacobs, will who will receive the lifetime achievement award. According to von Furstenberg, Jacobs e-mailed her noting that he didn't think he was old enough for the honor and that he wanted it renamed the "half-lifetime award." She explained to the fashionistas in the room, "I told him that I'm much older than him and I'm still kicking." In addition, Jacobs garnered a nomination for the Womenswear Designer of the Year prize, as did Alexander Wang and the design duo Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler.

The Olsen twins are also up for an award. They will be competing in the womenswear category for emerging talent for their collection The Row, going up against Prabal Gurung and Joseph Altuzarra. The International Award will go to Phoebe Philo, who designs for Celine and who gets a shout-out from Kanye West on "Dark Fantasy," the lead cut from his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album.

Other 2011 CFDA nominees include Wang, Phillip Lim and Robert Geller in the up-and-coming menswear designer category, and Alejandro Ingelmo, Eddie Borgo, Pamela Love and Jason Wu for accessories.

'Paul': Five Secrets Revealed

Among the little-known details about the sci-fi comedy, director Greg Mottola tells MTV News Steven Spielberg lined up his own cameo.
By Eric Ditzian

The origin story of "Paul," Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's new sci-fi comedy about two English guys who encounter a goofy alien in the American Southwest, began on the soggy U.K. set of "Shaun of the Dead" in 2003. The crew had lost so many days because of rain that they started wondering how great it would be to shoot in a location where it never, ever, ever rained.

"We just spit-balled from there," Frost told MTV News recently. "No rain became the desert, the desert became Area 51 and then it was a short step to thinking about these two guys encountering an alien."

Rogen's alien is a little grey dude with a big noggin and huge eyes — a deliberate reference to the clichéd alien likeness on so many kids lunchboxes and doctored alien autopsy videos. Mottola and his team ended up spending a huge portion of their overall budget for the computer-generated alien because, well, for the movie to work, Paul had to look freakishly real rather than laughably corny.

"We had to scale down a bunch of other stuff because we didn't have a giant budget. To do the CGI of Paul was one-third of our budget," the director said. "The actual production budget was kind of small. We wanted Paul to look really good and be good CGI and not bad CGI, so we gave up 10 days of shooting and a second unit for the action scenes, just to pour more money into getting Paul right."

They Lucked Out With their House Band
"Paul" doesn't only contain nods to Spielberg flicks but to a wide range of other classic genre movies, from "Star Trek" to "Back to the Future." Proud sci-fi nerds that the entire creative team was, everyone threw in suggestions for cinematic references. For one scene, Mottola proposed having a band in a roadhouse bar play the cantina theme from "Star Wars." He just didn't know if the band he'd hired actually knew the tune.

"They were a local New Mexico band — and I asked if they could learn the song and they said, 'Oh, we played a wedding for a 'Star Wars' freak. The cantina theme was the first dance,' " Mottola said.

Though the film overflows with sci-fi geekery, Frost and Pegg emphasized that viewers need not be conversant in Klingon to enjoy it. "If this is the first science fiction film you've ever seen, then every science fiction film you see afterwards will be a reference to 'Paul'!" Pegg said.

Matthew McConaughey Harnesses His Salesman Roots In 'Lincoln Lawyer'

'Always have a joker up your sleeve,' actor tells MTV News of the trick to law and sales.

In "The Lincoln Lawyer," Matthew McConaughey plays unconventional defense attorney Mick Haller, a man who goes to great — and sometimes questionable — lengths to prove a client's innocence. He also conducts most of his business from the backseat of his Lincoln, bringing new life to the phrase "wheelin' and dealin'."

When MTV News caught up with McConaughey during the press day for the film, we learned some fun facts about the actor's past. First, he loves lawyers and debate and wanted to be a lawyer until his junior year in college (when he switched his major to film production). Second, McConaughey revealed that he didn't have to stretch too far to harness the wheelin' and dealin' aspects of his character.

"I come from a long line of salesmen," McConaughey said. "My father and my older brother are pipe salesmen. That's wheelin' and dealin'. I've always appreciated good salesmen. There's an art to selling. You play a different part with different clients. You don't talk to the head of the biker gang the same way you talk to the rich father in Beverly Hills or the rich mother in Beverly Hills who wants her son off and has a million dollars to put up for it; you talk to those people differently."

McConaughey went on to say that salesmen wear different hats as part of the hustle involved in the business.

"You don't show all your cards. Always have a joker up your sleeve," he said, flashing that famous sly smile.

We then asked if that bit of advice is part of his philosophy about life as well.

"[It's] pretty good to have a joker up your sleeve, it helps," he said. "You might not need it, but there are times where you go, 'Oh, there it is. Cool.' "
