The nominees for the 2011 CMT Music Awards are out, and it seems that there's no awards show Justin Bieber won't be nominated for.

The Canadian superstar managed to nab a CMT nod for his collaboration with Rascal Flatts on the reworked version of "That Should Be Me." He's up against Jason Aldean with Kelly Clarkson for "Don't You Wanna Stay," Kid Rock featuring Sheryl Crow for "Collide," Aaron Lewis featuring George Jones and Charlie Daniels for "Country Boy" and Loretta Lynn, Miranda Lambert and Sheryl Crow for "Coal Miner's Daughter" in the Collaborative Video of the Year category.

Taylor Swift got three nods for her video for "Mine": She's up for Best Web Video of the Year (for her performance at her Speak Now album-release party), Female Video of the Year and Video of the Year. Carrie Underwood is up for two prizes, facing off against Swift in the Female Video of the Year and Video of the Year categories with her video for "Undo It."

Other Female Video of the Year nominees include Sara Evans ("A Little Bit Stronger"), Miranda Lambert ("The House That Built Me") and Reba McEntire ("Turn On the Radio").

A number of other crossover acts such as Sugarland, Lady Antebellum and Miranda Lambert are up for the night's big award, Video of the Year. Other nominees in the category include Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Zac Brown Band and The Band Perry.

Fans can vote for the winners on the CMT website. The show takes place June 8 in the home of country music: Nashville, Tennessee.

Lady Gaga Says Fame Was Her 'Destiny' In New HBO Promo

'There was never a question in my mind that I was gonna make it,' singer says.
By Jocelyn Vena

In a new promo for her May 7 HBO special, Lady Gaga recalls her rise to fame. Sitting in a car, her pals by her side, the Mother Monster explains that she always knew she was going to make it and that she woke up one day "and the delusion was real."

"There was never a question in my mind that I was gonna make it and that this is my destiny and that we were all gonna make it as the kids of this city, as the New York generation," she says, driving through the streets of New York to Madison Square Garden where she taped the concert portion of the special.

"My faith in my creativity and my artistry has nothing to do with making it," she continued. "We kind of had already made it when we were playing for nothing downtown. ... We still felt like we were superstars."

She goes on to credit God for her success, as shots of her in the car are edited with ones of her in a deli getting coffee, walking down the street in a skimpy leotard and leather jacket, and greeting fans from her SUV. Later on, in the middle of a prayer, she says, "They used to always tell me, 'You will never be a star because you're too ethnic, you're too Italian, you're too out there.' It doesn't matter who you are, or where you come from or how much money you've got in your pocket. You have your own destiny and your own life ahead of you."

This is the latest tease for the special. On Monday, in a promo, Gaga cried about her lingering feelings of inadequacy. "I start to think about all the people that have tried to stop me, and I get this super-intense fury. ... I just sometimes feel like a loser still," she says. "It's crazy 'cause we're at the Garden, but I still sometimes feel like a loser kid in high school. And I just got to pick myself up and I have to tell myself I'm a superstar every morning so that I can get through this day and be for my fans what they need for me to be. But sometimes I still feel like people are trying to destroy me."

Previous teases have shown Gaga hitting the streets of New York, dressed in a studded leather jacket and high platform ankle boots, as "Born This Way" plays in the background. That same promo showed the madness at MSG leading up to her show, footage of which is also in the clip. In the second, shorter preview, shots of her performance are revealed as her new single, "Judas," plays.

Casey Abrams Sent Packing On 'American Idol'

Abrams lasted an extra five weeks after the judges saved him.
By Gil Kaufman

Ryan Seacrest warned off the top that fans were going to be disappointed with the news on Thursday night's (April 28) "American Idol" results show. At the point in the season where you are guaranteed that half of the remaining six will end up in the bottom three, there were plenty of opportunities to be bummed.

But after finding new ways to make the amateur singers twist in the wind while awaiting their fate, when the smoke cleared, it was Casey Abrams whose card was punched into "Idol" purgatory. Lauded for his musical aptitude but hampered by a tendency to get overly aggressive and unnecessarily scatty during his performances, Abrams left the show after being saved by the judges earlier in the season.

There were plenty of things that had to happen before any actual results were read, though, like a trip to the British consulate in honor of Friday's royal wedding, some Internet questions from fans and a medley of the Carole King-penned tunes "It Might as Well Rain Until September," "One Fine Day," "Go Away Little Girl" and "It's Too Late."

When it was time to finally give some results, Seacrest brought out each of the finalists in random order, with frequent bottom-three dweller Haley Reinhart dodging the bullet this week and being sent to safety after her bluesy rendition of "Beautiful."

Seacrest teased audience fave Scotty McCreery, making him hang on after reviewing his sensitive-guy take on "You've Got a Friend." He then called out fellow teen Lauren Alaina, who sang "Where You Lead (I Will Follow)," and ... did the same thing.

The torture continued with bearded lover-man Abrams, who had grunted and scowled through a mother-lovin' cover of the little-known "Hi-De-Ho" and was also sent back to the couch to chill through a commercial break. Surely, Seacrest would just wave James Durbin to safety after the rocker's touching take on "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" And he did.

Though our experts were unanimous in picking gospel singer Jacob Lusk as the likely boot-ee after his up-and-down rendition of "Oh No Not My Baby — which mentor Jimmy Iovine said was also ankled by a poor, not star-like wardrobe choice — Lusk was spared yet again.

That left the unlikely due of Abrams and McCreery standing center stage facing the abyss. After wowing the judges and audience with his upright and electric bass playing, melodica honking and a controversial save, Abrams is now free to do what he vowed to at the end of his goodbye montage: "work hard and do everything I can to get myself out there and bring jazz back."

His run ended with a reprise of his signature scowl-fest "I Put a Spell on You," which included hugs and kisses with the judges, random smooches with audience members, a chest thump for McCreery, a barrel-roll onto the stage and a final eye-lock with purported show honey Reinhart.

The show also featured a drop-in from last season's runner-up, Crystal Bowersox, who sang the bluesy old time rock and roll ditty "Ridin' With the Radio," as well as a song from Bruno Mars, who got mellow with his perfect summer tune "The Lazy Song."

The top five will do it all again next week in the run-up to the show's May 26 finale.

Ke$ha's Get $leazy Tour doesn't wrap until May, but the singer is already making plans for a return engagement, announcing a second leg of the jaunt scheduled for this summer.

Ke$h is adding more than 30 North American dates to the $leazy trek — beginning on July 26 in Harrington, Delaware, and wrapping on September 20 in Phoenix — giving fans even more opportunities to watch her guzzle blood from a human heart! Usher Says New 'Rev Pop' Project Is A 'Movement'

Singer teases his new project by pointing to past hits like 'Yeah!' and 'OMG.'
By James Montgomery

Usher
Photo: MTV News

With the success of songs like "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love," "Hot Tottie" and "OMG," Usher had himself a fairly massive 2010. But rather than rest on his laurels, he's looking to build on his big year, not with an album, but with a "movement."

It's something he's calling "Rev Pop" — or, simply, "Rev" — and though he's already teased his idea in a video with David Guetta (Akon is also involved), he has yet to speak in full about it. So when MTV News caught up with Ush before the 53rd annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles at the (Belvedere) RED launch party, we asked him about his next musical endeavor. And though he didn't reveal much, he did let it be known that "Rev" isn't exactly something new. In fact, he's been doing it for a while now.

"I'll give it to you this way: At a later date, I'll tell you more about Rev Pop, but if I were to give you a flash: I've done it before, I did it with 'Yeah!' " he said, "taking a cultural experience, and also worldwide recognition of a feeling, and putting the soul in the middle of it. Not allowing it to shift heavily to R&B genre, or pop. I did it again with 'OMG,' once again putting the soul in the middle of it, which was an electric-pop experience, with the soul.

"It's bringing those elements together to tell a story, that was born here," he said, gesturing toward his heart, "And that's what Rev Pop is. There's more, I mean, I could really elaborate, but that's just what I'm going to tell you right now. 'Rev' is what it's called ... the movement is called Rev."

Usher wouldn't say just when his fans would be getting their first taste of Rev, but whenever they do, it sounds like they're going to be impressed ... if not a little shocked.

"Stay alive," he smiled, "Because you're definitely going to be in for a surprise."

Lady Gaga, 30 Seconds To Mars, Tokio Hotel Take Home O Music Awards

Chiddy's record-breaking rap and performances from Lupe Fiasco and Matt and Kim light up Las Vegas.

On Thursday night (April 28), MTV's first-ever O Music Awards took over Las Vegas. With performances and award presentations streamed from all over the world, the digital awards show recognized "about every gigabyte of music activity known to man," according to hosts (and rock duo) Matt and Kim.

The pair hosted the show from Vegas' famed Fremont Street and kicked off the O Music Awards with a two-song set before introducing Cee Lo Green, who logged online to present the Most Innovative Artist Award to Lady Gaga.

Gaga, who, according to Cee Lo, did "the best job saying 'f--- you' to rules," graciously accepted the O cube along with the award for Must Follow Artist on Twitter and told her following, "To all the monsters watching, surge on."

Chiddy Bang's Chidera "Chiddy" Anamege used the O Music Awards as a platform to successfully beat the nine hour and 16 minute "Longest Freestyle Rap" Guinness World Record with a time of nine hours, 18 minutes and 22 seconds. He celebrated the feat by debuting his brand-new single "No One Like Me" to the Vegas crowd, complete with Mr. T, Kiss, Bret Michaels and Pee-wee Herman impersonators.

Performances by Lupe Fiasco and Foster the People were neatly laced into the awards show, but the topper was Mumford & Sons, along with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show's Austin, Texas, hoedown.

Although he wasn't nominated for any awards, Justin Bieber inadvertently became a star of the show when Lil B's "Justin Bieber" video was shown, pumping up fans for the Best NSFW Video Award that went to 30 Seconds to Mars' "Hurricane." Accepting the award in a bathroom (as they are currently on tour), Jared Leto seemed genuinely excited and thanked fans for the support.

Alex Goot, who won Best Fan Cover Award for his rendition of Britney Spears "Hold It Against Me," followed up his win by singing a sweet and softly sung cover of "Don't Let Me Fall" by B.o.B.

Obviously no online awards show would be complete without the presence of pop-culture wunderkind Rebecca Black, who started her weekend early by "holding it down" at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino to host the Fan Army Party. Encouraging viewers to vote for their Favorite Fan Army, it was the last award of the night and went to Tokio Hotel's Aliens.

Did the O Music Awards get it right? Let us know in the comments!

Chris Brown Takes Stage With Justin Bieber In Australia

Bieber's 'Up' remix partner surprised the crowd in Sydney on Thursday.

Rumors abounded in recent days that Justin Bieber would be canceling a scheduled Australian gig because of a back injury. Not only did Bieber not cancel his Thursday (April 28) show in Sydney, he even brought a special guest to the gig.

"I don't cancel ... In route to Sydney!! THE SHOW IS ON!! I don't let my fans down! LEGGO!! #myworldtour," he wrote on Twitter before the gig. "Sydney ... Leggo! #myworldtour"

Hours later, Bieber and his crew revealed to fans who couldn't be at the show that his "Up" remix partner, Chris Brown, had taken the stage with him Down Under. "@JustinBieber and @ChrisBrown just tore the stage down. INSANE. #MyWorldTour," music video director and Bieber insider Alfredo Flores tweeted. Fans then began to weigh in on the pairing, causing Bieber to retweet their kind praise for the performance.

"I feel bad for that stage cause I just heard @justinbieber & @chrisbrown just killed the stage! LOOK AT ME NOW!" AlexisDanielle6 wrote.

Another Belieber, annargh, added, "@JustinBieber that was the most amazing concert I've ever been to! You are so talented! THANK YOU FOR SHARING IT WITH US."

Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, even tweeted a picture of the two performing together, writing, "Look At Them Now! @justinbieber and @chrisbrown 2nite in SYDNEY ... KILL'T IT!"

Bieber obviously had the final say, writing, "And they thought we might cancel tonight. Look at Me Now! I love Australia! #SWAG."

According to a report in The Daily Telegraph, the crowd of nearly 16,000 girls went mad as Bieber played on the latest stop on his My World tour at the Acer Arena. "By the time the countdown clock announced the arrival of the 17-year-old superstar, you would have thought these over-excited, sugar-fueled kids would be ready to relax and enjoy the show," the review noted. "Nope, they blew the decibel reader into the red — reaching 110 decibels between songs — the equivalent of a chainsaw. Ear plugs were a matter of survival."

Ryan Reynolds Calls His 'Green Lantern' Character A 'Reimagining'

Star talks of the challenges of combining fanboys' wishes with his own.
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Ryan Reynolds in "Green Lantern"
Photo: DC Comics/ Warner Bros.

Ryan Reynolds knows his "Green Lantern" lore. He has committed Hal Jordan's signature oath to memory and can speak knowledgably about lesser-known characters like Bzzd. And as a devoted fan of the DC Comics series, he understands the pressure that comes along with a big-screen adaptation.

The weight of fan expectation was all the greater after the initial "Green Lantern" trailer was not exactly warmly embraced. But following the debut of fresh footage at CinemaCon last month, opinion has shifted. "I feel better," Reynolds admitted to MTV News, which is debuting a very cool character banner as part of our Summer Movie Preview week.

In a later interview, he expanded on those comments about the burden of bringing "Green Lantern" to the multiplex on June 17. "This one is particularly challenging because you want to get it right for so many people coming in with a built-in expectation," he explained. "It's one thing to do it for a film when you're inventing a character that nobody's heard of. That's great. It's another when you're reimagining a character that people have known for decades. So that's not an insignificant challenge.

"You want to come in there and bring them something that is truly memorable and is exactly what they want blended with exactly what I want, because I am the guy that's got to do it," he added. "It's exciting. There are challenges."

Yet Reynolds maintains that the film's story will be one that appeals not just to the fanboys but also to a broader audience: His Hal Jordan is an egocentric test pilot who transforms, thanks to a Green Lantern power ring, to a universe-protecting superhero. As Reynolds put it, "This is a guy that goes from a reckless, walking mishap to a guy with a higher calling, and he really rises to that occasion and experiences real humility and purpose for the first time in his life. That's a story I think a lot of people will gravitate toward."

It's Summer Movie Preview Week, and MTV News will be bringing you exclusive interviews, clips and photos for the most anticipated films of the coming months. Get ready to gorge on inside looks at "Captain America," "The Hangover Part II," "X-Men: First Class," "Cowboys & Aliens" and more.

Check out everything we've got on "Green Lantern."
