Be gentle with these guys — it's their first time as nominees or performers at the MTV Video Music Awards. Here's a look at this year's VMA virgins and where you'll see them come Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
Ke$ha
It was almost impossible to turn the radio on and not hear Kesha's party-happy pop track "Tik Tok" over the past year. (She also did the background vocals on Flo Rida's ubiquitous "Right Round.") The singer is up for Best New Artist, and she'll present an award Sunday. "This is such a monumental thing for me to be nominated, because it really means people do really like what I'm doing," she said.
Nicki Minaj
Lil Wayne's wig-loving protégé will perform during the VMA pre-show on Sunday, and perhaps the mixtape diva will give us a taste of her forthcoming debut album, Pink Friday. "Obviously, this is something everybody dreamed of being part of, and I'm no exception to that rule," she said. "I just feel like this is my coming-out party. This is major for an artist with no album out."
Cascada
Natalie Horler fronts this German Eurodance group, and along with DJ Manian and Yanou, the band will make their VMA debut Sunday. They'll be competing in the newly revamped Dance Music Video category. Earlier this year, it was announced that they were the second-most-downloaded dance artists of all time. Who's the most downloaded? French DJ David Guetta, which brings us to our next rookie ...
David Guetta
The French DJ is responsible for sweating up dance floors, both international and domestic, and he finally nabs his first VMA for "Sexy Chick," featuring Akon.
B.o.B
The Atlanta rapper is up for five VMAs, and he'll take the stage for the first time.
Florence and the Machine
Florence and the Machine's Florence Welch is bringing her funked-out, soulful vocals to the VMA stage this year, where she's up for four awards.
Jason Derülo
The pop singer feels like he already won at the VMAs. Last year, he attended the awards, but he sat in the back of the house. "This year, I'm nominated for two awards. It's incredible," said the singer, who has opened for Lady Gaga. "I've watched these awards my whole entire life, so to finally be a part of it is a dream come true. Pinch me, please." Derülo will be taking the stage with VMA house artist Deadmau5.
Justin Bieber
Bieber presented a VMA with Ke$ha at the 2009 show, but this year, he's up for Best New Artist and is set to perform.
Deadmau5
In case you're wondering, it's pronounced "dead mouse" (real name: Joel Thomas Zimmerman), and he's a Canadian house producer. He'll be working as this year's house artist.
Chelsea Handler
The comedian is the first woman to host the VMAs since 1994. Prepare for laughter beyond belief from the E! talk-show hostess.
Drake
The Toronto rapper (and Lil Wayne protégé) is up for three Moonmen; he'll also perform at the VMAs for the first time.
Robyn
Fresh off a tour with Kelis, Robyn, a Swedish pop singer, will perform with deadmau5 on Sunday at the VMAs.
Bruno Mars
Up for one VMA (along with collaborator B.o.B), Bruno Mars will also perform for the first time at the VMAs.

In a vital singles match on the last day of Ryder Cup play, Tiger Woods holed an eagle from the fairway on the par-4 12th hole from 133 yards out. With his opponent Francesco Molinari already on the green putting for birdie, Woods did one better by holing out an amazing eagle shot that caddy Stevie Williams didn't realize went in at first, neither did Tiger. Williams handed Tiger a putter, to which Tiger later grinned and said, "Here, I don't need this." The eagle put him 3 up through 12 holes in the match against his European opponent, and came in a four-hole stretch where Tiger posted three birdies and an eagle. Click below to watch the shot:

Model says West convinced her to play the movie's phoenix over dinner with Ivanka Trump.

There are many mysteries surrounding Kanye West's epic mini-movie for "Runaway," but one question nobody is asking is why the rapper picked gorgeous model Selita Ebanks to star as the phoenix in the film.
The former fiancée of Nick Cannon, "Celebrity Apprentice" contestant and Victoria's Secret runway strutter was happy to suit up in the feathery wings for the part in West's nearly wordless, 35-minute movie — which will premiere on Saturday on MTV and BET — but she admitted to New York magazine that she wasn't quite sure what Yeezy was up to herself.
"I mean, you sit down with someone, and they say, 'Hey, I want to make a movie where a phoenix falls from the sky and she becomes my girlfriend,' you look at him like, 'Okaaaay,' " she said. Ebanks has known West ever since she appeared in the music video for Pharrell's 2006 song "Number One," which featured verses by Kanye. This summer, she said the good friends had dinner with Ivanka Trump and a few other friends, and West began telling his companions about his concept for the "Runaway" video.
"He's had this idea for so long, he wants to do a movie for an album, not a music video," she said. "And everyone was like, 'You're crazy! You can't do that!' And Ivanka was like, 'Who's gonna do it?' 'Cause the phoenix was originally going to be completely naked. And I was like, 'No way. I'd never do that.' "
But, as time went on, the more she talked about it with Kanye, and the more he explained the "nonverbal acting" required of his female co-star, the more Ebanks thought she might be interested. "I've been studying acting for like 10 years, and I've always wanted to do something that off the wall," she explained.
She likely got more than she bargained for during the intense four-day shoot in Prague earlier this summer. With abstract scenes involving explosions, skittish deer and a parade, Ebanks said the "Runaway" screenplay, such as it was, existed mostly in Kanye's head.
"The way 'Ye operates, everything is in his mind," she said. "He tries to verbally explain it. It's a lot of conversation, a lot of character development and us working together, collaborating. Then he called in the big dogs, [art director] Vanessa Beecroft, as well as Philip Lim to do the wings [for the phoenix]. It was a big process of going in and fitting them and figuring out what looks more realistic. That was done in New York, all within two to three weeks."
The first thing she did when she got off the plane in Prague was get fitted for a breastplate she wears near the end of the film, a detail of her costuming that the pair had never discussed before. "A lot of it is putting trust into his creativity and into his vision," she explained.
Despite the esoteric nature of the idea, Ebanks said West is not one to explain his vision by referring to existing pieces of art, but rather by asking his collaborators to trust that he knows what he's doing. "You have to have a certain amount of trust, and then it's pretty easy for him to convince you what his vision is, and for it to be compelling," she said. "I completely caught what he wanted from the beginning."
She praised West as a great director who is patient and gives good instructions, making it clear that he was not dictatorial and had "no ego" on the set. Not even a director's chair with his name on it, in fact.
Ebanks speculated that the moral of the movie is: "The world doesn't accept, or they try to change, what is different, instead of trying to understand it."
Ebanks said there are probably a few different ways to interpret the newly released controversial My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album cover featuring a painting of yet another phoenix, this one topless and straddling a naked, wine-swilling Kanye. "It's kind of the same with his music, the things that he raps about," she said. "You shouldn't take everything as literal as it may look. I think it's all about that douche bag thing. You know, there he is on that couch with a drink in his hand and a phoenix naked. There's nothing wrong with that."

After an incident at a laser tag center in Canada over the weekend, Justin Bieber is reportedly ready to stand up against bullies. On Friday, a 12-year-old used an anti-gay slur against Bieber.
TMZ reports that the 16-year-old star plans to take a stand against homophobia after realizing how hurtful it can be to be bullied, regardless of his own sexuality. Although Bieber is straight, he understands now what it is like to be on the receiving end, according to the website.
It's being reported that Bieber will likely go public about the incident sometime in the next week to lend his support to the anti-bullying campaign. Word is that Bieber's camp wanted to keep the episode quiet, but the singer thought it was more important to be open about it. Police are currently investigating, but after Bieber's camp spoke to police and witnesses backed up his story, it's been concluded that the singer did not instigate the confrontation with the tween.
While Bieber has yet to comment directly, on Monday (October 18) morning he tweeted this message to his fans: "Thanks for everyone supporting the book and the music. glad i get to share who i really am with u guys."
Unnamed sources have told TMZ that the episode went down at Planet Lazer, a laser tag chain that has a location in Richmond, British Columbia. The website reported that Bieber was targeted by an overzealous laser tag participant who lobbed an anti-gay slur at the teen idol. When the 12-year-old stuck his hand out toward Bieber, the pop sensation apparently batted it away and then left the center.
The incident comes during a busy time for the "Baby" crooner. The singer announced on Friday that his buzzed-about 3-D movie, out in February 2011, will be called "Never Say Never." His illustrated memoir, "Justin Bieber: First Step 2 Forever: My Story," just hit shelves. His chart-topping music continues to make an impact and the singer is up for four American Music Award trophies.
