Cher Recalls Holding Lady Gaga's Meat Purse At The VMAs

'Here, Cher, will you hold my meat purse?' singer/actress remembers Gaga asking onstage.

For the Cher fans out there old enough to remember her famous "Turn Back Time" outfit, the fact that the 64-year-old is still able to rock the heck out of that very small piece of fabric stood out as one of the highlights of this year's Video Music Awards.

When MTV News caught up with the legendary diva while she promoted her new movie "Burlesque," we had to ask what inspired her attire that night.

"Well, I wear that every night in Las Vegas, so I just whipped it out. I didn't have time to think of, like, getting a costume," she explained. "So I had it and thought it would just be fun to just take off on myself, not knowing I was going to be handling the meat purse," she said, referring to Lady Gaga's now-famous meat dress and accessory. "But, you know, there's those moments you just remember [forever]," she said with a chuckle. " 'Here, Cher, will you hold my meat purse?' "

For someone who has been in the business for so long, Cher is very down-to-earth about her fame — no matter how big the freak-outs of fans (and a few journalists we watched try to contain their excitement at the "Burlesque" press day). We asked what it feels like to experience such unbridled enthusiasm and love from her fans.

"You know, I would tell you the truth, and it's going to sound so awful, but I'm kind of used to it," she said. "I've been around so long. This guy said, 'My grandmother loves you.' If somebody's grandmother loves you, they've known you for a long time," she said, adding that the fans who have known her via a grandmother or mother have more of a history with her, which translates into being totally starstruck.

What did you think of Cher pulling out the "Turn Back Time" outfit for the VMAs? Let us know in the comments!

¿Y a ti? ¿Qué te parece todo esto?

'Harry Potter' Star Emma Watson Talks 'Deathly Hallows' Topless Kiss

'I forgot how full-on it was until I saw the movie,' she tells MTV News of her snog with Daniel Radcliffe.

This time, there's a whole lot of snogging going on.

Sure, we've seen it before in the "Harry Potter" franchise, Daniel Radcliffe or Emma Watson reeling in one of their co-stars for a smooch. Last year's "Half-Blood Prince," for instance, was sort of the series' romantic coming-of-age tale, with the Hogwarts crew often themselves puckering up first and asking questions later.

Tiger Woods' Game Gone With the Wind at Australian Masters

Tiger WoodsMELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -- In wind strong enough to blow sand out of the bunkers and kick up dust along the sandy terrain, Tiger Woods squeezed his eyes shut as he tried to clear his vision.

That was the least of his problems Friday in the Australian Masters.

He found himself going back to his old swing to help cope with the blustery conditions at Victoria Golf Club, and he turned in a performance that fans around the world are used to seeing this year.

One day after a promising round, Woods began a slow slide down the leaderboard.

With consecutive bogeys on the back nine that killed his momentum, Woods shot a 1-over 72 in the second round and wound up nine shots behind Adam Bland, who played in the same conditions and shot a 4-under 67.

Bland, who will be in the second stage of PGA Tour qualifying school next week, was at 10-under 132 and had a two-shot lead over Andre Stolz, who won in Las Vegas six years ago when Woods was going through his last swing change.

For Woods, it was the seventh time in 14 tournaments that he was at least nine shots behind going into the weekend. The Australian Masters is his last time as the defending champion, and he hasn't come close the four other times. His best finish in a title defense was a tie for 15th at the BMW Championship in Chicago. He was nine back after two rounds at Cog Hill, too.

"It was frustrating because I hit the ball well pretty much off the tee, and wasn't quite as sharp with the irons," Woods said.

Woods was at 1-under 141, tied with Camilo Villegas, who shot a 70.

Justin Bieber's My Worlds Acoustic Album Drops On Black Friday

November 26 certainly won't be a Black Friday for Justin Bieber fans. His acoustic album, My Worlds Acoustic, drops that day, which also happens to be the biggest shopping day of the year. The album will be sold exclusively through Walmart.

A press release for the album notes that in addition to acoustic versions of Bieber's hits, there's a new song on the album called "Pray." It's being described as an "optimistic, uplifting song, and represents the spirit behind My Worlds Acoustic." The press release also says that "Justin intends the album as a gift to his fans; the arrangements reflect Justin's early days with merely an acoustic guitar or a lone piano.

"The album adds additional acoustic instrumentation such as a string quartet, congas, and a cajon drum," the press release continues. "The percussion represents inspiration from Justin's worldly travels, most recently to Africa. Justin plays guitar on the album alongside his musical director and fellow guitarist Dan Kanter."

When MTV News spoke to Bieber about the album earlier this month, he explained why he wanted to release an acoustic album. "I really think that I did an acoustic album because there's a lot of haters out there that say, 'Justin Bieber can't sing. His voice is all Auto-Tuned,' " he said. "And there's a lot with production, it kind of drowns out your voice, and it takes away from the singer, over the synths and everything."

My Worlds Acoustic will allow Bieber's true talent to shine through. "I think kind of stripping it down and having it kind of really mellow and being able to hear my voice is why I wanted to do it."

Are you excited for Justin Bieber's acoustic album? Let us know in the comments!

'Unstoppable': The Reviews Are In!

Denzel Washington and director Tony Scott's latest collaboration gets critical kudos.
By Eric Ditzian

Photo: 20th Century Fox

Together Denzel Washington and director Tony Scott can reliably be expected to deliver hyperkinetic action sequences and box-office openings in the low $20 million range. Except for the $18 million "Crimson Tide" debuted to in 1995, this pair's flicks haven't plunged beneath the $20 million mark, nor have they floated past $24 million.

"Unstoppable," the duo's fifth collaboration, is likely to open within that familiar range, though its stellar reviews might lift the action flick's opening. Here's what critics are saying:

The Story

"Cinematic narrative doesn't get any simpler than that, and Scott wisely keeps the premise pure, ratcheting up the tension and raising the emotional stakes without cluttering up the story's sleek lines. A young, inexperienced railroad conductor named Will (Chris Pine) is on his first shift with veteran train operator Frank (Denzel Washington) on the same day that a train carrying tons of hazardous materials has been sent hurtling down its tracks without a conductor or functioning brakes. With the help of a coolheaded train executive named Connie (Rosario Dawson), who keeps in near constant contact with the men, Will and Frank narrowly escape colliding with what she calls 'a missile the size of the Chrysler Building.' Out of harm's way, their next priority is to chase the errant locomotive down and stop it before it hits a dangerous S-curve and crashes in the middle of a busy Pennsylvania city." — Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post

The Performances

"Mr. Washington has never been more likable, or convincingly heroic. Sometimes he's simultaneously intense and self-effacing, proof of his own expertise in the tricky profession of being a star. 'Unstoppable' will be a turning point in Mr. Pine's career; he gives a star performance that is notable for its subtlety, simplicity and unforced strength. Thanks to the bond between them, the movie more than gets away with conversational interludes in which Will and Frank discuss life and love." — Joe Morgenstern, The Wall Street Journal

The Look

"Mr. Scott is partial to blunt, rapid cuts; whipping pans; and saturated colors. He likes twirling the camera around characters, like a sugared-up tot running 360s on a playground, a hyperactive visual style that can turn the screen into a blur of pulsating color. Here, working with the cinematographer Ben Seresin and some ace sound technicians, he creates an unexpectedly rich world of chugging, rushing trains slicing across equally beautiful industrial and natural landscapes. There is something mesmerizing about these trains and the men who run them, something nostalgic too, because they seem like history machines, summoning up a past lived and also imagined, as in, for starters, 'The Great Train Robbery' (1903), 'North by Northwest' (1959) and 'Speed' (1994)." — Manohla Dargis, The New York Times

The Dissenters

"An action thriller seriously devoid of action or thrills, the curiously sluggish 'Unstoppable' is the slowest, talkiest movie you'll ever see about a runaway freight train loaded with toxic chemicals. The actors get a lot more to do in the admittedly brisk second half of 'Unstoppable,' but the filmmakers come up with a surprisingly small number of cliffhanger scenarios involving the speeding locomotive: 1985's 'Runaway Train,' although a dramatically different picture, did infinitely more exciting things with its premise. 'Unstoppable' picks up some speed as it hurtles toward its predictable conclusion, but the acceleration comes too late. No matter how many times Scott has his cameras circle his actors to lend the film a sense of barreling motion, you rarely feel as if this train has even left the station." — Rene Rodriguez, The Miami Herald

The Final Word

"Director Tony Scott may have missed his mark by a bit on his last cinematic train ride with 'The Taking of Pelham One Two Three,' but he hits his target dead-on in 'Unstoppable.' The best blue collar action movie in who knows how long, this tense, narrowly focused thriller about a runaway freight train has a lean and pure simplicity to it that is satisfying in and of itself. But in its incidental portrait of discontented and discounted working stiffs who live marginal lives on society's sidings and are angry to varying degrees, the film carries an unexpected weight and could connect with Middle American audiences in a big way." — Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter

Usher's VMA Performance To Be Worthy Of A 'King'

Awards-show executive producer teases Ush's 'best televised dance routine' in years.
By James Montgomery

LOS ANGELES — The success of Usher's "OMG" is as much a testament to his unyielding popularity as an artist as it is his ability to, well, dance his ass off. That's particularly apparent in the Video Music Award-nominated video for the song, which features Ush and a bevy of beauties popping, locking, pivoting and posing in ways we never thought possible. Quite simply, the man can move.

So when it came time to plot out his VMA performance, well, Usher's team -- and the brain trust behind the show -- didn't have a whole lot of trouble coming up with a concept. The dancing was going to be front and center. The only question was: How could they take things to the next level.

"We all sat in a room and came up with a concept for the stage, and then we took that concept to Usher," VMA executive producer Dave Sirulnick told MTV News. "We said to him, 'We want to do the best televised dance routine that you've done in years. Let's show why you're the king.' "

And Ush's Sunday night performance is very much an affair worthy of royalty. Full of eye-popping moves, hip-dipping dancers and more special effects than a Hollywood blockbuster, it makes full use of not just the epic VMA stage (which practically engulfs the entirety of Nokia Theater), but the space behind it.

While we can't give away too many details, based on the rehearsals we saw Thursday, the off-the-wall choreography is only part of the attraction. There are lasers and LED lights, stunts, slides and even some props. Like we said, it's kind of like a Hollywood blockbuster. And kind of a coronation too. After all, Usher is the king.

The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News' VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for Best New Artist from now through Sunday.

Michael Jackson's New Album Cover Decoded

Painting is packed with iconic MJ images.
By Gil Kaufman

Michael Jackson's Michael

When Michael hits shelves next month, the world will get the first of a promised flurry of posthumous releases from late pop superstar Michael Jackson. While we don't know yet what songs will appear on the album, Jackson's label, Sony Music, did release the cover art, a Kadir Nelson painting that takes fans on a fantasy ride through the greatest moments of the King of Pop's solo career.

(Check out our side-by-side analysis of the visual references on the Michael cover and the original moments in his career.)

The painting by Kadir Nelson features a montage of classic MJ images, from his Off the Wall-era tux to looks from the "Thriller" video. At the center is a a somber, Renaissance-like of Jackson in royal gold and burgundy vestments, a golden crown hovering over his head.

Let's break down the references:

Almost as iconic as the cover photo on Thriller is the pensive image of Jackson from the front of another one of his smashes, 1987's Bad, which sold more than 30 million copies.

Jackson's video for "Beat It" is one of the most beloved of all time. His signature red leather jacket with the acres of unnecessary zippers, the bright blue t-shirt and the legion of pirouetting bad boys are all present in the painting's representation of that clip.

One of the other Thriller-era looks that's cemented in the minds of fans during is the custom-made tuxedo jacket, pink shirt and red bowtie that Jackson wore in the "Billie Jean" video.

The cover of 1991's Dangerous portrayed Jackson as a mystery man hiding among a circus of bizarre, sideshow attractions. Here, Nelson has isolated a part of the cover that pays homage to the rollercoaster scene from the 1989 video for "Leave Me Alone."

Jackson appears, under a cluster of cameras, in the silver spacesuit he wore in his 1986 3-D space flick "Captain EO." The 17-minute film, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, debuted at the Disneyland EPCOT amusement park and went offline in 1998; it began screening again in 2010 following Jackson's death.

The spaceship from one of Jackson's favorite fantasy movies, Steven Spielberg's 1982 film "E.T.," floats in the painting's sky. Jackson contributed the song "Someone in the Dark" to the movie's Grammy-winning storybook, which he also narrated.

Another scene from the "Leave Me Alone" video isolating the rocketship the singer flies around in during the clip.

This detail from the "Leave Me Alone" video depicts a goldfish swimming in a bowl, another likely reference to Jackson's feeling of being constantly scrutinized. An interesting detail is the addition of a crown to the fish's head, which is likely another reference to Jackson's status as pop royalty.

One of the key scenes from the 1987 video for "The Way You Make Me Feel" — in which Jackson prepares to unleash some of his classic dance moves in silhouette — is also depicted.

MTV's Moonman makes an appearance, a reference to the fact that Jackson's legendary videos were instrumental both in the development of the channel and the art form itsemf.

As we float above the royal image of Jackson — which is similar to a number of paintings the singer commissioned during his life in which he was placed into historical settings — we arrive at the menacing robotic face in the corner from Jackson's 1988 movie "Moonwalker," which co-starred Joe Pesci.

If there is a single moment in MJ's career that can be considered ground zero for his superstardom, it might be his 1983 performance on "Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever." There, he unveiled his signature dance move, the Moonwalk, for the first time.

With the sun setting behind him, we see a 21-year-old Jackson sporting his late-'70s afro and a tuxedo, an homage to the cover of his breakthrough solo album Off the Wall.

Some of Jackson's most gravity-defying moves popped up in the Prohibition-themed clip for 1987's "Smooth Criminal."

The best-selling video of all time, "Thriller" is, to this day, thought of as the "Citizen Kane" of music videos. Here we see Jackson backed by some of the ghouls from the werewolf-themed mini-movie, which was shot by "Animal House" director John Landis. A classic scene from the "Thriller" video during which Jackson does his spotlight dance with the undead.

In addition to being one of the best-selling artists of all time, Jackson was also a humanitarian involved in many causes. He co-wrote and performed on 1985's legendary "We Are The World." Here he's depicted alongside some of the other stars from that once-in-a-lifetime charity single, including co-writer Lionel Richie, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Cyndi Lauper.

Hidden just behind Jackson's get-up from the "Smooth Criminal" video is a mirror with a reflection of the singer, which Nelson likely included as a sly reference to one of the Jackson's most beloved ballads, "Man in the Mirror." But also hidden in the image, just above the elephant's head, is a bubble containing singer Prince's signature male-female glyph. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Jackson and Prince had a contentious, competitive relationship and the inclusion of the diminutive Minneapolis star's logo could be intended as a playful tweak.

What was your favorite Michael Jackson moment depicted in the Michael cover painting? Let us know in the comments!
