Nicole Kidman Talks Babies, Nightmares At 'Rabbit Hole' Premiere

'I was having nightmares and I was really shaken,' she tells MTV News about tackling difficult role.

Several years ago, when Nicole Kidman was pregnant with her daughter, she began developing a big-screen adaptation of "Rabbit Hole," the Pulitzer Prize-winning play about parents suffering through the unimaginable loss of their young son.

The experience of bringing a life into the world while simultaneously shepherding a project about a life lost was an intensely affecting one for the actress, as she explained on Thursday at the film's red-carpet premiere. When production on "Rabbit Hole" began, daughter Sunday Rose was a year old, and Kidman found it difficult to let go of the characters at the end of each day.

"[It] deeply affects me," she told MTV News. "There were times when I woke in the middle of the night and I was having nightmares and I was really shaken by it. And that's when I know when something's really seeped into my subconscious and is disturbing me."

Co-star Aaron Eckhart — who plays Kidman's husband, one half of a couple being torn apart by the death of their child — similarly found himself reevaluating the idea of marriage and fatherhood. "It made me reflect on parenthood," he explained. "I'm not a father and I'm not married. Maybe someday I will be. I just put myself in that position of losing my son and almost losing my wife. I learned a lot about grief."

As dark as the material can be at times, the red carpet was anything but a depressing affair. Kidman was all smiles as she posed for pictures and answered questions alongside her husband, country music star Keith Urban. Jon Hamm, Parker Posey and co-star Sandra Oh were also on-hand for the celebration. Director John Cameron Mitchell pointed out that the festive mood was in keeping with the overall message of "Rabbit Hole," which opens in limited release on December 17.

"It isn't depressing," he said. "You are going to intense places, but everybody loves a good cry. Some people get that out in therapy, but many Americans do it through their entertainment. And this is an entertaining film despite its heaviness and it does end up with a lot of hope."

¿Y a ti? ¿Qué te parece todo esto?

Tim Wakefield Says 2011 Will Likely Be His Last Season

When Tim Wakefield has his knuckleball fluttering at the height of its powers, it is easy to sit back and wonder if he'll ever stop throwing it for the Red Sox.

Alas, those days are coming less frequently than they did in the past and Wakefield is thinking about the day when he stops trying to baffle hitters. He spoke with Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe and confirmed that retirement is on his mind.

"There are still some numbers I want to achieve. But I'm not going to put that much pressure on myself knowing that this probably will be my last year," Wakefield said. "I'm not going to come out and say I'm going to retire at the end of the 2011 season. But getting closer to the end, I'd really like to enjoy it more than I did last year."

'Black Swan' Director Pulling For Best Kiss MTV Movie Award

Darren Aronofsky's psychological ballet fantasy "Black Swan" is so full of metaphors, arresting imagery and memorable performances by stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, one would think filmgoers and critics would come away with endless topics to discuss. And yet, that hasn't been the case, as much of the publicity blitz has zeroed in on the movie's sex scenes and the actresses awkwardly rehashing filming details.

Regardless, one "sexy" aspect director Aronofsky was more than willing to address is his potential nomination and win for Best Kiss at next year's MTV Movie Awards.

"Do you think we're going to win the MTV Best Kiss?" he asked MTV News when we caught up with him recently to discuss the film.

"Is that what you're going for?" we countered.

"Absolutely," he said. "Only to see Mila and Natalie kiss again.

"But, the thing that bothers me most about MTV," he continued, "is that we didn't even get nominated for Best Fight of the year for 'The Wrestler.'... The Necro Butcher versus Randy 'The Ram'? I mean, how could we not get nominated?" he complained, affably. "We had a staple gun and a fork. I mean, is there a thing about rated-R violence? Are they trying to stay away?"

Honestly, we couldn't answer that question — only that we know "Twilight" cleaned up in most categories — but we did promise Aronofsky we would do our best to make sure "Black Swan" gets some attention for Best Kiss.

Back to his much-buzzed-about film, which opens Friday (December 3), we asked Aronofsky if the heightened sexuality in the film is derived from the research he did on the world of ballet.

"Well, there is a lot of sexuality," Aronofsky said. "It's a very sexy thing: It's bodies moving through space in skimpy clothes. There's an erotic element to it," he explained. "People in the ballet world might be up in arms, but it almost — if you think about what people in the 1800s were allowed to see as far as sexuality, and then they would go and see a form of a tutu and men in tights with codpieces — it was a form of pornography, I think, for rich people back in the day.

"But also, the film is about a girl trapped in a woman's body," Aronofsky continued. "A woman-child trying to burst out, and, of course, what a girl to a woman is her sexuality, so it was about Natalie's sexuality bursting out."

It's Just Basketball, but Cleveland's Emotions Are Real

Zydrunas IlgauskasCLEVELAND - Zydrunas Ilgauskas is right, of course. One hundred percent correct. Thursday night's game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat is just that: A basketball game.

"There are more important things in life: people dying from cancer every day, kids dying every day, people having HIV, people fighting wars," Ilgauskas told FanHouse Wednesday night. "There are more important things than the Miami Heat going back to Cleveland.

"Let's put life in perspective, it's just a basketball game."

Ilgauskas spoke in the context of Cavs owner Dan Gilbert hiring a law firm to investigate whether the Heat acquired James while breaking NBA rules, a story broken by Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday. Longshot? Who knows. But Gilbert has the right to hire the law firm if he wishes; it's his money, and if he thinks the Heat broke the rules, more power to him for pursuing it.

In that sense, Ilgauskas might be a tiny bit off.

But in the bigger picture, the all-of-life picture, his words are noted, proper, correct and commendable. It is just a basketball game, and it pales in comparison to cancer and war. To even insinuate it doesn't is ludicrous.

Mariano Rivera, Yankees Reportedly Reach 2-Year Deal

Mariano Rivera will remain the Yankees' closer for two more seasons -- at least.

The legendary reliever will sign a two-year deal believed to be worth $30 million Friday, the New York Daily News reported Thursday night. That will be the first big-ticket item checked off on the Yankees' winter to-do list, and in much more low-key fashion than the Bombers' negotiations with Derek Jeter.

Rivera's agent, Fern Cuza, told the Daily News earlier Thursday that some work remained to finish off a deal with the Yankees, but when another team jumped in with an offer of three years at perhaps $17 million per, the Yankees quickly wrapped up a deal.

"He wanted to stay loyal to the Yankees," a source told the Daily News.
